Seattle Selfie Museum

April 6, 2020

Seattle is home to many great businesses and several fun activities, but this one in particular grabbed my attention right away! The pop-up-turned-permanent Seattle Selfie Museum is the first of it’s kind in Seattle. It’s increasing popularity is extending visits from across the state of Washington, including myself and friend Olivia from oliviamichelleh.com.

Nestled into Post Alley, on your way to the Gum Wall and Pike’s Place Market, you’ll find the entry to the new Seattle Selfie Museum!

What is this place? A new-age museum filled with interactive, Insta-worthy exhibits. Grab a friend (or a group of friends!) and experience a playful photoshoot environment where all you need is your phone!

Here’s how it works: Buy your tickets online ahead of time to reserve a time slot. When you do this you will be given an hour window to enjoy the museum. Tickets are $29 on weekdays and $34 on weekends.

The building hosts 2 stories of exhibits, entry is to the left in the lower half. Olivia and I were greeted upon entry, receiving stamps on our hands after our reservations were verified. The nice lady at the desk was happy to snap a few pictures of us at the “red carpet” right inside.

Downstairs you’ll find 10 separate photo setups. Each is completely different from the other and perfectly sized for an image. Stations with limited natural light have ring lights set up.

We decided to wear all white to the museum and pack a few pieces that we could mix and match for each backdrop. I’m really glad we did this because the scenes became the focus of the pictures!

The Seattle Selfie Museum team found a use for all of those old VHS tapes and made this amazing rainbow wall.

It’s okay if you can’t control your selfies. Some people feel uncomfortable taking pictures in public, and I used to be one of those. I asked a the girls from the Content Creatives Podcast for tips on taking photos in public and they made a whole episode on it. The biggest takeaway I had was to remember that everyone takes photos. So, just remember: everyone who is visiting the Seattle Selfie Museum is there to take pictures.

No one is passing judgement when you are taking your time trying to find the right pose or being silly, they’re busy trying to get the perfect shot too! Just have fun!

Here is where I was glad I packed a pop of color! I don’t suggest packing a large bag with you into the museum because there isn’t a lot of space between exhibits to stow it. We packed really light and mostly focused on bringing small accessories that could bring the photos to life.

You feel like a kid again stepping into this pink ball-pit! I wish I would have packed some bubblegum for a bubble pic holding a phone.

The floral room had some really great lighting. It was definitely one of my favorites.

I brought a makeup brush specifically for this room! The pink vanity vignette is very “me,” so I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to take pictures I might be able to use later. In the pink bathroom there’s a fabulous pink wig that you could pose with too!

No, these candy dispensers are not operational. Believe me, I tried them all.

Not photographed is the painting of famous ladies in art taking selfies. I didn’t have a clue how to pose there!

There’s a donut wall covered in plush donuts which includes 2 loose donuts that you can pose with. *The donuts on the wall shouldn’t be removed.

The stairs

The monochromatic stairs and colorful graphic walls of the stairway shouldn’t be overlooked! There are so many photo opportunities going up to the second floor or on your way back down.

upstairs

The second story has an additional 10 interactive displays! An employee greeted us upstairs and checked for our hand stamps before we could make it to the exhibits. At this point we had almost spent an hour between the downstairs story and the stairs taking pictures, but no one was rushing us out.

Check out the hashtag #seattleselfiemuseum on IG for a lot of really fun photos at this spot!

This was one of my lesser favorite murals upstairs, simply because I didn’t feel like it had a lot of versatility.

Olivia and I shared a lot of laughs swinging in the banana room! Up until this point I never realized that I need banana wallpaper in my life.

There are 3 sets of wings upstairs- the black, gold, and hot pink.

Open the door to the room in the center of the upstairs to step into this fun-house. Mirrors lining the walls and ceiling reflect the light from colorful orbs sprinkled on the floor.

The Seattle Selfie Museum is a fun place to “kick it” with your friends. (see what I did there? haha!)

An employee came over to give us a few posing ideas for this “anti-gravity” room. I’m actually laying on the floor in this jumping picture.

Another tip from an employee was to take a shot through the faucet hole on the bathtub- never would have though of this myself!

Not pictured upstairs was the “red room.” This room featured common living room items all painted the same shade of red. I could not get the lighting right between the contrast of my outfit, hair, and the shade of red.

Overall, I had so much fun at the Seattle Selfie Museum! I highly recommend this attraction to any local or visitor of Seattle! We took hundreds of pictures and spent about 2 hours just having a blast together. 100% worth the admission!
